The new law prohibits smoking on LIRR and Metro North outdoor platforms. This includes the outdoor ticketing and boarding areas of all terminals and stations. The Long Island Rail Road and Metro North have been conducting a customer education campaign to raise awareness of the new smoking ban. This includes signs at stations, customer e-mail alerts, leaflets on trains, posts on Facebook and Twitter, and public address announcements.
