From cross country skiing to an exciting seal cruise through Long Islands water, join in on the winter fun. The new law prohibits smoking on LIRR and Metro North outdoor platforms. This includes the outdoor ticketing and boarding areas of all terminals and stations. The Long Island Rail Road and Metro North have been conducting a customer education campaign to raise awareness of the new smoking ban. This includes signs at stations, customer e-mail alerts, leaflets on trains, posts on Facebook and Twitter, and public address announcements. If youre traveling to or from the city on those days, please be aware that the Long Island Rail Road will be operating on a holiday schedule and off peak fares will be in effect all day. In addition, nine extra trains will operate on the Port Washington and Ronkonkoma branches. In addition, there will be extra cars on select trains.
